Is it hard to make a website?

Updated: 5 days ago

Building a website using website builders

In a way, building a website in this day and age is easier than ever. With drag and drop website building platforms like WIX, Squarespace, and WordPress, they make building a website more accessible to the average person than ever. These platforms will have you believe that it is as easy as a click of a button, but there are things that you should consider beforehand.

Learning Curve

There is more than meets the eye when building a website using these platforms. The time to learn is definitely a lot less than coding a website from scratch, but it definitely won't take you a day. Typically learning a platform like WIX will take about 5 days, that will be enough to familiarize yourself, without being an expert.

Size of your website

One thing to consider when making any website, is how much time and effort will go into creating it. For someone wanting to create a simple homepage, it may take a few days to create. But if you are looking to create a multi-page website for your business, it will take weeks of effort (That's also not including the amount of time it'll take you to learn the platform).

Limitations

Although these drag and drop website builders allow users the ability to create a website with minimal learning and resources, they are very limited. There are many things that these platforms are not capable of without inserting additional (sometimes paid) plugins, or inserting code.

Building a website from scratch

Although drag and drop website platforms have been becoming more popular over the last decade, they are not able to fully replace creating a website from code. Programming a website allows you the freedom to create whatever idea pops into your head. Most large companies will opt for this option for obvious reasons, and you need to know if this is the right option for you as well.

Website Development

Learning Curve

Although HTML and CSS are considered to be easier languages compared to other coding languages out there, there is still a learning curve that needs to be considered. It would likely take about 3-6 months to become proficient enough to start creating a website. There is also so much to learn with any language, that even if you are familiar with it, it make take many more months and hours before you become truly great at it.

Limitations

Knowing how to code is unfortunately half the battle when creating a website. Because you are starting from scratch, you must also consider the design aspect. Website designers and Website Developers are two completely different roles, and it's rare for someone to be good at both.

Drag and drop plat forms like WIX allow you to bypass the development aspect and get right to designing your dream website, unfortunately that can't be said the same about coding a website for yourself. In many cases you will need to become proficient in design tools such as Photoshop or Canva, to bring your website to life.

Conclusion

Lets be honest, unless you have a passion for website design or coding, creating a website for yourself can be a real hassle. Most business owners are busy growing and would prefer to leave this kind of thing to a professional. Huk Design was made to relieve that stress and make web design more accessible to the average business owner. My pricing will always be competitive to the market, and a functional + good looking website will always be a priority.
